Welcome to Jargonese, a list of perplexing web-related terms. Though we don’t speak it very often, we can teach you the basics…
Web 2.0
A nebulous term that relates to the inclusion of interactive functionality within websites including the use of blogs, comments, sharing etc. The term is used to describe the evolution of the web to its current state, but many of the things which supposedly heralded it's arrival have been around for over a decade.
HTML
The underlying language used to build and display websites (Hyper Text Markup Language). It's not something you will ever need to know or understand, so don't give it another thought. The Jack Marlow Content Management System takes care of all that, allowing you to add content without worrying about how a machine likes things served up.
XHTML Compliance
Relates to whether or not the underlying HTML is written well enough to validate against the World Wide Web Consortium's standards. This is more of a thing for us web developers to get excited about as many websites that don't comply probably look fine in your web browser. We'll make sure your website complies, even though we know it probably means jack all to you. By complying to standards, we make sure your website will look the same to visitors using different web browsers.
